![]() ![]() The first proper song would be the title track, “Cuttin’ Thru”, and here we get some heavy 70s style hard rock, with a good riff on both the guitars and organ. Remember, this was 1982, during the height of the so-called “Satanic panic”, and everyone was still iffy about the concept of “Christian rock”, so starting off an album with a song that didn’t have lyrics? Gasp! How would we know where they stood?!? But, I digress. Allegedly, from what I’ve ready, starting off with an instrumental like that on a Christian rock record caused a bit of a stir among concerned Christian parents. And Cuttin’ Thru has only been released on LP and cassette.ĭiving into the music, we begin with “Spiritual Warfare”, which is an instrumental that starts off with what sounds like electronic whale song, then a booming voice-over that then leads into some crunchy and driving old style hard rock hook that definitely has a 70s hard rock vibe. They were, what you would call, “low budget”. I do want to point out that this was released on the Tunesmith Records label, which was the Christian rock imprint of Praise Industries Corp., a label that was based out of Canada, and lasted between 19. Maybe in the future, when I just want to kick back and listen to him and the other guests talk about whatever, but I really don’t care to invest that much into writing up a review of their one and only studio album, Cuttin’ Thru. ![]() The write-up on the Real 80s CCM blog suggests I listen to the Legacy podcast with guitarist Michael Manthei for more on the history of the band I say thee nay. Not much can be found on the band Anthem (The Rock Band) 1, other than they were one of the very few female-fronted Christian rock bands from the late 70s, early 80s, along with Servant, Barnabas and partly speaking, Resurrection Band. ![]()
